Beschrijving
Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire follows the River Ure through an old crossing place, with pale bridge arches, a foaming weir and a church tower above the waterside houses.
The Ure is central to Boroughbridge, whose history includes the river crossing associated with the Roman route of Dere Street. Beyond the town centre, the three prehistoric Devil's Arrows standing stones add another layer to this North Yorkshire landscape.
Two broad pale arches span blue water behind a low white weir. On the right bank, cream buildings cluster below a pinnacled church tower. Tall trees and reeds fill the opposite edge, with white flowers close to the water. Full green foliage and the bright, clouded sky suggest summer. The horizontal bridge and falling water give the scene its strongest lines.
