This work, Twee konijnenhoofden achter muur II, demonstrates his signature method of reduction. By stripping away unnecessary detail, Bruna focuses on the essential geometry of his subjects. The composition relies on a single vertical line, which acts as a barrier, separating the viewer from the two rabbit heads peering from behind it.

Bruna often spent days refining a single drawing to achieve this level of clarity. His process involved constant editing, removing elements until only the most basic shapes remained. The thick, black outlines are characteristic of his graphic design background, where he prioritised legibility and immediate visual impact. The use of negative space is equally important here, as the vast white area surrounding the figures creates a sense of stillness and focus.

This piece reflects the influence of De Stijl and the Bauhaus movement on Bruna's work. He favoured primary colours and simple forms, believing that such austerity allowed for a more direct connection with the audience. The rabbit heads, rendered with minimal dots for eyes and simple curves for ears, possess a universal quality that transcends language. This drawing is a study in restraint, showing how a few deliberate marks can convey character and narrative. It is a clear example of Bruna's ability to balance playfulness with a rigorous, almost architectural, sense of order. The work remains a study in the power of simplicity, where the absence of colour and complex shading allows the viewer to engage directly with the form itself.

You might also like

Female Model - Vilhelm Lundstrøm — Vilhelm Lundstrøm
Four Regular Solids - M.C.
