This work, 557 Houses in the Snow in a Silver Shower, displays his characteristic approach to architectural subjects. The houses are rendered with a sense of whimsy, featuring uneven windows and non-traditional roof shapes that defy standard geometry. The composition is divided into distinct zones, with the structures occupying the upper portion while the foreground remains open and expansive.

The colour palette is striking, dominated by a bold red roof that contrasts with the muted, earthy tones of the building facades. Hundertwasser employs a silver metallic element, which gives the work its name and adds a reflective quality to the surface. The snow is depicted through scattered grey shapes, creating a rhythmic pattern across the image. A bright red path winds through the lower section, drawing the eye across the composition and connecting the architectural elements to the foreground.

Hundertwasser often incorporated personal symbolism into his work, and the numbering system he used for his titles reflects his meticulous documentation of his own output. His style is marked by a rejection of industrial uniformity, favouring instead a human-centric approach to design and environment. The use of thick, dark outlines defines the shapes, giving the work a graphic quality reminiscent of stained glass or folk art. This piece captures his interest in the relationship between human dwellings and the natural world, presented through a lens of imaginative abstraction. The work remains a clear example of his philosophy, which prioritised individual expression over rigid architectural standards.

<div
