His work frequently turned away from the glamour of the Parisian cabaret scene to focus on the lives of the working class, the impoverished, and the marginalised. This lithograph, The Sick Child, captures a moment of quiet domestic hardship. The composition is dominated by deep shadows and soft, atmospheric tonal transitions, which serve to isolate the mother and child in their private struggle. \n\nThe mother sits on a simple wooden chair, her posture hunched and protective as she cradles the infant. Steinlen uses the medium of lithography to create a charcoal-like texture, allowing for a range of greys that suggest a dimly lit room. The lack of background detail keeps the viewer focused on the physical connection between the two figures. The artist avoids sentimentality, preferring a direct, honest depiction of the exhaustion and concern etched into the mother's form. \n\nSteinlen's approach to this subject reflects his broader interest in the human condition. By choosing to depict the realities of illness and poverty, he provides a window into the daily lives of those often ignored by the art world of his time. The print is a fine example of his technical skill in printmaking, where the manipulation of light and shadow conveys emotional weight without the need for excessive detail. This piece remains a representative example of his graphic work, which often appeared in journals and posters of the period to communicate social messages to a wider public. The print is signed by the artist in the lower right corner, indicating its status as a limited edition work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv style=\"margin-top:2rem;padding-top:1.5rem;border-top:1px solid
