Before he became a central figure of the Futurist movement, Boccioni experimented with the Divisionist technique, a method characterised by the application of small, distinct dots or strokes of colour that blend in the eye of the viewer. This approach allowed him to explore the effects of light and atmosphere with greater precision than traditional brushwork.\n\nThe composition features a cluster of trees in the foreground, their trunks rendered with textured, vertical strokes that contrast against the more diffuse, dappled light of the background. A low stone wall separates the immediate foreground from a field where two figures stand, their forms simplified and integrated into the surrounding environment. The palette relies on earthy tones, greens, and ochres, punctuated by the lighter, cooler hues of the sky and the distant architecture. \n\nBoccioni employs a rhythmic application of paint, creating a sense of vibration across the surface of the canvas. The trees act as a framing device, drawing the eye into the depth of the scene while maintaining a decorative quality through the repetitive mark-making. This piece reflects the influence of Italian Divisionists such as Gaetano Previati and Giovanni Segantini, whose work Boccioni studied closely during his time in Milan. It is a study of light and structure, demonstrating his early interest in how colour can define form and space. The work remains a clear example of his technical proficiency before his later shift toward the dynamic, fragmented aesthetics of Futurism.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Umberto
