The characters are rendered in a fluid, cursive script that prioritises the rhythm of the brush stroke over rigid formal structure. Each mark reflects the physical movement of the artist, capturing a moment of meditative focus through ink on paper.

Feiyin Tongrong was a significant figure within the Linji school of Chan Buddhism. His calligraphy often served as a vehicle for transmitting Zen teachings, where the visual form of the characters acts as an extension of the philosophical content. The composition is balanced yet dynamic, with varying ink density creating a sense of depth and movement across the surface. The presence of red seal impressions provides a visual counterpoint to the monochrome ink, marking the work with the authority of the calligrapher.

In this piece, the characters flow into one another, suggesting a continuous stream of thought. The lack of hesitation in the strokes indicates a high level of mastery, where the brush becomes an extension of the mind. This style of writing, often referred to as 'wild cursive', allows for a personal expression that remains disciplined by the requirements of the text. The work is presented here as a high-quality fine art print, preserving the texture of the original paper and the nuances of the ink application. It offers a quiet, contemplative addition to a space, inviting the viewer to observe the interplay between silence and motion inherent in the practice of Zen.

You might also like

For a hundred years I have been a person with no attachments - Jiun Onkō by Jiun
Letter to Yao Zhi by Wen Jia

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/9292/1935/files/Chinese-Poem-on-Zen-Meditation_Poster_CompositorV1_1791367227097.jpg?v=1791368363
